When the Peregrination finds themselves in a legal crisis that can't just be solved over drinks, they appoint a Lawspeaker. The current Lawspeaker has come to a clandestine meeting with the Outer Rangers about just such a crisis as events seem inevitable conclusion that the Peregrination will take the blowback for the crimes of others.

- Carmine Earl takes his first name (with a different spelling) from the main character of the television series The Bear.
- Luce and Judge Marinos can be heard listening to the p^g match from Five-Foot Six and Two-Fifteen from earlier in the season.
- Luce is named after Leigh Brackett, the writer of the Rio Bravo trilogy.
- Judge Marinos was mentioned but not shown in Ride Boldly Ride (and possibly The Train Job), but this is her first actual appearance in an episode.
