¶ The Agreement of Martian And Lunar Aid (AMALA)
the trade agreement between Mars & Luna made between S2 & S3 (to be fleshed out as needed)
- Basically provides trade advantages to Mars and Luna, and puts Terra in a rough spot.
- Doesn’t involve the outer system, nor any of the smaller settlements, but things in orbit around Mars and Luna have sort of been included by default.
- People are unclear if the Ceres Accords still apply to Mars and Luna given this agreement. It’s made people question what (if any) universal law still applies.
some sort of intra-system agreement (to be fleshed out as needed)
- Article 2- the section dealing with the Rangers
- Article 10, section 8 [lifeboat situations] and Article 12, section 2 [salvage.] The ship and all cargo may be subject to forfeiture if doing so increases the survival odds of those still aboard.
- Ship Registration Ceres Accords 190A-34.12
- TK SECTION NUMBER- the rules against Vulturing
- Unlawful salvage of a ship in need
- Failure to Render Aid to Those Known At Risk
- Aka- “"double get fucked" laws. The rules and laws that only apply when you're already getting convicted with something else. You wouldn't get charged if you maybe skated past a ship in distress "because I thought they were bandits" But if you looted a ship in need? Bam, two for one.”
- “if you're on record as having responded, now you're on the hook to actually help”
(though again, enforcement is variable)
- Heliotime Law Sun Law
- Inner, governed by Terra
- Asterotime Law Star Law
- Outer law, governed by the Belt
- Kenotime Law
- Basically a joke, specifically all places too far away from Belt or Terra to be governed. Practically, this is largely “governed” by the Peregrination, but they don’t do a lot of law keeping for outsiders.
- “Accountable to Kenotime Law” is a euphemism for being the back end of nowhere
- “The Law We Carry With Us”
- Peregrination law, for themselves (see Peregrination details)
- 3 branches
- Sheriff
- are location based, usually at stations. Responsible for keeping the peace in their jurisdiction and (nominally) to coordinate a local militia.
- Marshals
- mobile, work in small groups. They hunt down fugitives, transport prisoners, and escort the judges from place to place (since few locations need a full time judge).
- Port and Transit Lane Guard aka Port Guard or “the Guard” “Void Guard” to fanbois
- They work in larger groups, and have warships. Nominally, they're still a law enforcement entity but they almost exclusively fight pirates and act as a military force to keep the Inner governments from getting too imperialistic
- A prison asteroid. The prisoners are largely left to fend for themselves. There are a series of bubbles, and a token staff.
- Guards ensure all prisoners are fed, given basic medical care, and that violence is at least attempted to be minimized, but that’s about it.
- It’s basically a largely-anarchic hamster habitat on a rock.
- There are a bunch of bubbles, connected by 10-lane-highway-size tubes.
- Some areas are well-maintained, orderly, and support each other.
- Many aren’t.
- Different “communities” have been established in different bubbles
- Prisoners get a bracelet that is locked on for the duration of their stay. It gives them a unique ID allowing access to the sections of the prison they’re allowed in, also to their personal rations locker & similar
- It’s possible to physically hack the bracelet, with actual re-wiring and soldering. It’s relatively easy to hack the access part, so you can go to different areas. It’s a lot harder to hack the food, etc. It can be done, but at a much greater risk of messing everything up and making the bracelet unusable
- There is a mandatory sentence increase of 1- 5 years for every replacement bracelet issued, regardless as to the reason.
- Escape is mostly prevented by limited access of-asteroid.
- There are 2 places on the planet where ships can land
- There are 2 access points from the prison to each of these landing areas, so 4 total exit ports.
- There are skiffs and short-range escape pod type vehicles with enough room for staff.
