- Biggest shipyard in the system
- In orbit of Mars
- Whole lotta drug use
- "company town with a lot of unofficial underbelly". Like a Victorian Era shipyard, complete with pinkertons, and covered in barnacles that are whatever the space equivalent of shacks and lean-tos would be.
- 8VAC quality is super variable across the place, with the worse places being full of smoke etc, and nicer places being properly filtered.
- The Ground- workspace inside the station itself, the work space with gravity and atmo where work is done without exosuits. Sometimes also called “drydock”
- The Yard- the space part, where ships are worked on in vacuum. Work done in specialized exosuits
- Areas that are actively being constructed are protected by a Kepler Net which will prevent things (and people) from drifting too far away, but this can only cover so much of an area, so it’s the places that construction is actually being done
- There are multiple Yards, each assigned a number, with their own set of shift workers, managers, etc
- Yard 3, Second Shift is the one featured in Roll On, Northumbria
- Yardie slang
- Balloon- the new guy. B/c they’re tethered to another crew member not just the ship
- Biggest ship prior to the Northumbria
- The Azorian
- built as a mobile transorbital mining platform. Basically it was going to fly around and mine very large asteroids, refine the material on board, and then deliver it to profitable markets. It was even going to strip mine the surfaces of several moons.
- And it could have done that, but it was also built to go dark and sneak around (funded by AXE). It could envelope small space stations and medium sized ships. And they were going to use to it abduct key figures from the Outer System.
- But the stealth systems weren't very good, and somebody spotted it with a telescope and it was so big they thought it was an asteroid, on a collision course with earth (it was headed home on a test run). The NR knew it wasn't but didn't say anything. The other Terran governments agreed to prevent "the disaster" and blew it up.
- When the wreckage was examine the whole thing came out to the public and was a huge scandal
- Manufactures, transports, and sells fuel of all types
- “Our Fuel Fires the Furnaces of the Future”
- Located in the Hephaistos asteroid group, on a bunch of asteroids that are held together into a sort of archipelago, that you can travel between via short-range transport, more like planes than space ships.
- Prior to S3, they mostly got their fuel from Titan mining, but most of those rigs are owned by Terra, so after TK SPACE NAFTA they needed to make a switch
- They are currently in the process of building their own rigs on Titan, but are currently refining and processing material from the Saturnian system (BRONCOS from the drive), and then transporting it from there to Luna, where the majority of its sales are
- Commissions the building of the Northumbria at Delaney Shipyards
- Responsible for the Furnace List, which is the best places to eat in the System. Michelin stars for space. For more info on this see: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1efLQARYmwTAV4olEBl_k4-TBBTbi2creEOjgVSJ4xsg/edit#bookmark=id.2oon5oqcl5el
- mining rigs that in essence sit on top of one of the layers of the atmosphere, then send a fuckoff long pipeline down into the lakes to harvest hydrocarbons and co-crystals. Maybe multiple pipelines, depending on the rig
- In Titan Winter (fall/winter) they harvest liquid stuff, in Summer (spring/summer) gas. There’s about a 1 year change-over time between the two rig settings.
- People talk about Titan only having two season, b/c while there are technically 4, only two matter.
- Miners do shifts of 3 - 18 months, but 6-9 months is the most common shift
- Workers on a rig
- Rig Engineer: does what an engineer does. In general, not thought super well of until they prove themselves to their crew.
- Rig Tech: “Plumber” someone who works with the pipes themselves
- Systems Integration Expert: computers + mechanics and how they work together
- Roustabout: does everything, usually someone just starting to work on the rigs
