- “Real” food is grown in most of the established bubbles and settlements. Most orbitals also have hydroponics, aquaponics, etc to grow food. But this kind of food remains expensive and more difficult to obtain.
- Many people eat food made via bio-printers that process raw organic material into a variety of types of food and forms. They’re vitamin/nutrient enriched, and while don’t always taste like the foods they’re modeled on, they are fairly close, or at least acceptable
- Most people don’t have home bio-printers. They buy printed food from stores much as in the present day. Different stores have different printer patterns they’ve bought or licensed. Places like YuKon can get a wider variety, or better quality raw materials etc.
- Institutions and facilities like schools have on-site bio-printers.
- Nutrient Enriched Material- catch all name for bioprinter raw material. Covers things like nutritional molds, algaes, and various other biological material that can be mixed with vitamins and other enrichment, and run through a bioprinter into more desirable forms
- Colloquially referred to as NEMlette, likely because the earliest forms of it resembled scrambled eggs.
- Candy
- Comet crunch bar
- Martian dry-aged beef is a thing (see Mars section for more info on martian meats)
- Lab grown meat
- Lots of ranches for this on Mars
- lab grown meat is like lab-grown diamonds. Actually too good to be believable. It's completely uniform, high quality. But no marbling, etc. So you get good meat always, but it's identical to all other lab grown chicken, or pork, or beef
- In terms of expense and reputation–
- Bio printed meat
- Lab grown meat
- Organic meat
- Grifola Terminus, commercially known as the Starlight Truffle (despite taxonomically being the furthest thing from a truffle imaginable),
- more commonly known as Terminal Conks (and less widely known outside of Terminal Station as Sucker Shrooms).
- Artificial rarity created by the Starlight Truffle Co
- Grow on the vents in waste reclamation on Terminal only, and haven’t been able to be cultivated anywhere else yet
- Are sold from Terminal to the rest of the system specifically by Comets

- Black Hole- mixed drink
- Di-pent- no info on what it does, but you “drop” it
- Vollattes (Space Cigarettes)
- Originally the trademarked product Vollatté, generalized to the term for all of them.
- Shortened to “vollies”
- like a cigarette except instead of lighting it, you tear the end of (or cut it like a cigar) and the contents start reacting to the oxygen in the air and subliming, which is endothermic, so the whole thing gets cold as it reacts
- there's a whole ad campaign around "vollie" being a homonym with "volley" and it's artillery themed
- You “smoke” them.
- Need to be kept dry, dampness ruins the reaction
- Easily crushed
- Can be nicotine, but also a wide range of substances
- Various regulations in various places. Inners tend to have laws against the more esoteric ones, but allow things like THC and nicotine
- Outter is free for all
- Bigger stations/asteroids have their own regulations
- Brands
- Crystalline “so cold it burns”
- Spencer’s “cold as a comets tail”

- The Furnace List
- Supposed to be an in-house list of locations around the system that traveling execs could eat, or take other people for nice meals.
- It got leaked, and has become the equivalent of Micheline stars on Terra
- It gets updated yearly, and they work very hard to try to keep it secret, but it is inevitably leaked each time
- Redline program “Lighting the Furnace” follows competitors trying to get on the list
- It’s a yes/no thing, not ranked. You’re either on the list or not.
- Places on the Furnace List
- The Noodle Shop on Delaney Station / The Noodle Shop Around the Corner
- Waystation Market #237
